Remote work. Opportunities and Limitations

Hello. On the eve of the start of the 1C Programmer course , our teacher Dmitry Kotlov has already talked about where to get software for training and what a 1C programmer should be able to do , today, in the final article from the cycle, Dmitry will talk about his personal experience of working remotely.

Good afternoon. Colleagues, in today's article I will talk about working as a 1C programmer on a remote location. I'll tell you about the advantages, disadvantages and features of this work. I have been working fully remotely for over a year, before that I worked in an office. It will be extremely difficult to work remotely if you are a beginner specialist, because in this case, the main part of your work is learning from your colleagues; it is fastest to communicate with colleagues offline.

Pros of working remotely

  • no need to waste time and money on the road
  • you do not need to rent an apartment expensively, or you can rent your own (important for big cities) and move to a smaller city, where life is much cheaper - this is certainly not for everybody
  • you can work from anywhere with access to a computer and the Internet
  • you can independently organize your workplace

Cons of working remotely

  • income level is lower than in the office

My experience of working remotely

In May 2019, I left the office and in the summer slowly began to look for a new job. I was looking for a job in Moscow, I myself live in the Moscow region. The journey from home to work is approximately 2 hours one way. Having visited a couple of dozen organizations, I decided to stay on the one where they offered the opportunity to work remotely, albeit for a lower salary. Now I am thinking about moving to another region, to a small town. Summer is already there. Of the advantages compared to Moscow: living is cheaper, no one has been sick in 4 months (and there are five of us, me, my wife and three children) and I like the climate better.

About remote work in the tropics

There are several important features here:

  • Difference in time
  • Workplace
  • The cost of living - in resort areas near the sea it is comparable, if not more expensive than Moscow

Combining a full beach and sightseeing vacation in the tropics and work will not work, because work takes time and a clear head.

I'll tell you about the example of Thailand (Phuket). When it is 9 am in Moscow, there is 1 pm, dawn is at about 6 am (local time). It turns out that the time from 6 am to 1 pm is free, no one will call, you can safely have breakfast, go to the beach and have lunch. Then working hours begin, it is not convenient to work on the beach (it is hot, the laptop monitor is almost invisible, because it glares, the laptop itself heats up), so I went to my room and returned to the beach at lunchtime (then 5 pm local time) literally for an hour one and a half. Then again in the room and until 22-23 hours (18-19 hours Moscow time), and then you have to go to bed.
