[Personal experience] IT engineer career path: from the Valley to a stable British company through startups and psychotherapy

We live in a world where an experienced IT engineer has a lot of development paths. You can go to a mega-corporation, get a job in a startup, open your own company, or go freelance. And there are also a whole bunch of options for competencies and technologies: from simple programming to managing teams and entire projects. And with such an abundance of options, there is a risk of losing it: doing what you don't like at all, burn out and generally be disappointed in IT. But you can turn this variety to your advantage - after all, no one bothers to try everything.

We talked about this with  Georgy , who has changed several companies and a couple of directions over 20 years of his career: he managed to work in Silicon Valley, be a freelancer, lead a startup, and even consult as a psychotherapist. He will talk about his journey and share insights about changing jobs, finding himself, and dealing with professional boredom and burnout.

The beginning of the road: chips, Silicon Valley and the crash of the dot-com

At the very beginning of my journey, I just went to study at a university for something related to computers. I didn't think about salaries, career growth or anything like that, I was just looking for something to my liking. As a result, he entered the Institute of Electronics Mathematics and began to study circuitry - hardware design.
