Introduction
With all the diversity of worlds and the possible diversity of alien civilizations described by science fiction writers, progressors from the cycle of works by the Strugatsky brothers about the World of Noon have more than once managed to find on other worlds a completely terrestrial Europe. In Hard to Be God, it was Europe of the late Middle Ages, in Boy from the Underworld, it was Europe in the mid-20th century.
In the story "Inhabited Island", which is part of the above cycle and occupies an important place in it, the spaceship of the protagonist, born in the 22nd century, crashes on the planet, for the image of which the authors also took the Europe of the 30-40s as a basis years of the last century.
Today, many may find it strange the disinterested aspiration of the heroes of Soviet science fiction to help representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations in solving problems that on Earth, in the society of victorious communism, have long been able to cope with. But in many respects it is on this aspiration, in which some 50 years ago readers did not find anything strange, that the works of the Strugatsky brothers about the World of Noon are built.
Even someone who came to an alien planet by accident considers it his duty to help the people living there and change their lives. But do they strive for these changes themselves? The main topic of this article will be the Strugatsky story, I will talk about the world of the story, the history of its creation, the main questions posed by the authors, and also consider some of the answers to these questions.
Each part of the story shows the world from a new side, reveals a new truth that not only complements the overall picture, but turns everything upside down every time. In order not to spoil the impression of reading for those who are not yet familiar with the story, at the beginning of the article I will not reveal the main secrets and will tell about the world of this work only what becomes known in the first parts.
