Hello, my name is Sergey, and I, like many other programmers, do not have a higher education diploma. It's not that I didn't try to get it - I tried, even twice. But as it turned out, in Penza, a small provincial Russian town where I grew up, it is certainly possible to get a higher education degree in IT, but this education itself cannot be obtained. This post is a story of my failed attempts and a description of the problems I encountered along the way.

After a couple of days, studies began, and all my worst expectations were fully justified. Mathematics was taught to us by a hard-walking grandmother of about eighty years old, who adored writing the entire blackboard with three-story formulas, without really explaining anything and occasionally turning to face the audience and asking if we understood everything, and without waiting for an answer, continued to write. She had one interesting feature - sometimes during a conversation with students she fell silent and stood motionless for a minute or two, staring at one point. It was not entirely clear in what specific place and time the grandmother's consciousness was at these moments, but it was absolutely obvious that it was high time for her to retire.

The wheel of the senseless and useless machine of Russian education is spinning and spinning, and there is no particular hope of improving the situation. Most of the participants do not benefit from changing anything. The only more or less successful attempt to change the situation known to me is the Innopolis University, created near Kazan on the basis of the American Carnegie Mellon University. But this does not change the general state of affairs.
