TechLeads as a way to stop development
This article presents my personal opinion on the need for tech leads.
First, let's define a stack of responsibilities / requirements for a tech lead:
Great experience
Initiative (Proactivity)
Special mindset
A responsibility
Leader skills
These are the main qualities that a tech lead should have in the understanding of large companies.
Let's take a look at each point.
1. Experience
As you know, the IT world is quite active and is changing faster and faster. Knowledge that is relevant today may become suboptimal tomorrow. There is always something that can elude a person's eyes. Why, in general, experience on some other project in solving other problems can somehow help in solving current problems. It is clear that many tasks are similar, but for all similar tasks there have long been public solutions that can be easily found on the Internet.
Let's consider the situation. There are two candidates:
20 years of experience. java 6,7,8; j2ee; jdbc and so on.
5 years of experience. java 11; spring jpa; kubernetes; kafka

In the dry residue. The IT sphere is the sphere of the living with the mind. And people with a lively mind do not need tech leadership. They need freedom and knowledge sharing. Stop recruiting / having tech leads. Start recruiting / training active Jun / Middle.
