How COVID testing evolved

On November 31, 2019, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission released information on the outbreak of a new viral infection. On January 3, 2020, the Chinese authorities officially notified WHO of this, and already on January 9, a new type of coronavirus was identified as an etiological factor in the development of infection.

On January 11, the PRC registered the first fatal case associated with covid, and a week later, the first infected outside China were detected - in Thailand and the United States. On January 22, the Chinese authorities are closing Wuhan, and tough quarantine measures are being introduced. On January 31, the first infected covid was discovered in the Russian Federation, and a few days later the first death from covid outside the PRC was recorded - in the Philippines.

On February 11, WHO officially names the new coronavirus, COVID-19, and a month later, a pandemic is declared. The WHO defines Europe as the center of the pandemic, where the number of cases is growing exponentially, but by the end of March, the United States comes out on top in the world in terms of the number of infected covids. At the same time, China claims that the epidemic within the country has stopped, while in the world in two months the number of cases increases from 1 to 10 million people, and the number of deaths from covid exceeds 200 thousand. At the same time, fears about the decline of the economies of countries prevail over the fear of a pandemic, and in the summer of 2020, almost all countries lift the severe restrictions introduced in March-April, air communication between states opens, leading to a sharp increase in the number of infected people in the world - from 10 million people at the end of May to more than 30 million by the end of September and 40 million by mid-October 2020. At the same time, more than 1 million covid-associated deaths are recorded in the world. The "2nd wave" of a new coronavirus infection is announced, which continues to this day - countries are reintroducing restrictive measures of varying degrees of severity, air traffic between states is partially suspended, and complete lockdowns are announced somewhere.air communication between states is partially suspended, somewhere full lockdowns are announced.air communication between states is partially suspended, somewhere full lockdowns are announced.

Thus, with an increase in the number of recovered and vaccinated persons, the popularity of molecular genetic testing in favor of immunological diagnostics decreases. PCR testing remains relevant for the diagnosis of a new infection, which is important for medical organizations, as well as when crossing state borders, which is important for individuals.
