Part 7

After the completion of the construction of the Sarcophagus, the offensive of radiation was stopped, so it was time for the scientist army to launch a counterattack. Again, it was conducted in two directions. Ongoing decontamination of the Zone, as well as reconnaissance of the state of what was covered by the Shelter object. Let's talk today about both of these areas, there is something to discuss here. And today we will take a walk in the Red Forest.

It will not do without mysticism (with subsequent exposure).

Stripping

Decontamination was not limited to just digging up the soil. Very serious measures were taken to prevent the penetration of radioactive debris outside the zone.

Around the zone, as well as inside, within the boundaries of the 5 and 10-kilometer zones, there were checkpoints with PuSO. There were carried out measurements of cars leaving the zone. And if the car itself was more dirty, then it was sent to wash. But the cargo was taken away and sent to the burial grounds after the equipment. At PuCO, a huge amount of dirty water was formed, which could be reused if it were not so heavily contaminated. Employees of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute under the leadership of Alexander Shutko developed a special reagent for its purification, which made it possible to reduce water pollution by radiation by 2-3 orders of magnitude.

On the territory of the zone, two large storage facilities were organized - Rassokha and Buryakovka. Due to the cost of the equipment buried there, they turned out to be "golden". The mere fact that in the end almost all the IMR (very expensive vehicles, by the way) that were in service with the Soviet army were buried there, clearly testifies to this.

In the frames above, there is already a burial of transport behind the Jupiter plant in Pripyat. Cars are pushed into trenches dug specifically for them. These are civilian vehicles from the Zone that have taken too much radiation. Those machines that were more correct were used by the liquidators for a long time later, moving on them around the Zone. All these cars had special internal numbers:
