The study showed that 71.1% of students are employed in their chosen specialty. More than half of graduates find work in the first two months after graduation. This is the first public survey of the online education market in Russia.
Yandex.Praktikum opened its data to external expertise so that any person, when deciding on additional professional education, could rely on real and confirmed figures. This will help potential students make a more informed decision when choosing a training site.

The results of the study showed that 71.1% of Yandex.Practicum graduates who wanted to change jobs are employed in their chosen specialty. Most of the graduates find work within four months.
What are the salaries of graduates of different professions
After completing the course, graduates can apply for a starting position in the chosen specialty. The median monthly salary of a Practicum graduate is 66 thousand rubles. Most of all, graduates of the courses "Data Analyst" (80 thousand rubles) and "Web developer" (78.5 thousand rubles) earn.
Graduates with a technical education receive slightly more than respondents with a different educational profile, but the difference is small - 70 thousand rubles against 65 thousand rubles, respectively.
The median salary depends on the region: in Moscow it is 80 thousand rubles, in St. Petersburg - 62.5 thousand rubles, and in the regions - 50 thousand rubles.
Is it possible to find a job in IT without technical education and after 40 years
There are many prejudices among people who would like to change their profession. For example, that with age it is more difficult to find a job in IT, or that they will not take anywhere without experience. Research has shown that this is not the case.
Past work experience in IT does not greatly affect the employment of graduates of the Practicum: among those who did not have relevant work experience before, 70.4% found a job, and among those who had it, 73.2%.
Age is also not a barrier, as is commonly believed: 60.7% of graduates over 40 find work, and the oldest employed graduate is 52.
How the study was carried out
The base of respondents is 796 graduates who completed their studies at the Practicum from January 1 to June 30, 2020. To reliably estimate the terms of employment, we interviewed only those who graduated more than six months before the study.
The HSE team segmented the respondents depending on the learning objectives: whether the graduate planned to change jobs or not. The collection of data took place from March 5 to March 31, 2021 and included three stages: email newsletter with an invitation to participate in the survey, telephone calls, and sms messages.
More than half of the graduates of each course were admitted to the study: "Front-end developer" (69.1%), "Web developer" (53.3%), "Tester" (56.8%), "Data analyst" (59, 2%), "Data Science Specialist" (65%). This is a reliable and statistically significant sample.
Yandex.Praktikum and the Higher School of Economics have agreed to make the methodology open, and everyone can join the regular measurements. This step is important for the development in Russia of a civilized market for additional professional online education, where at the moment there are no official statistics confirming advertising promises about employment and salaries of graduates of online courses.
