Chernobyl part 6. Hot melt versus cold logic

Author: Alexander Starostin

Part 5

Finally, it's time to talk about the active phase of the liquidation of the accident, namely about the battle with the melted reactor. Deadly radiation, defense in two directions, useful and stupid heroism - all this is in the new part.

Now we are again on a straight road back to April 26, 1986. Having flown up together with the helicopter pilots from above, we will penetrate into the destroyed building and gradually descend into the very hell. Get ready.

Air

At the Institute of Atomic Energy. Igor Kurchatov learned about the accident at night. After that, on an urgent basis, the formation of the first delegation to the station from the IAE, and indeed the government commission for liquidation of the consequences of the accident (LPA) at the Chernobyl NPP (hereinafter PC), began. It was headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR B.E.Shcherbina, the Minister of Energy A.I. Legasov and V.A. Sidorenko, then Deputy Chairman of Gospromatomnadzor. That is, indirectly, the entire IAE participated in the work of the PC, which was, in fact, the senior contractor of all liquidation works. The PC arrived in Pripyat in the afternoon and was accommodated in the City Committee of the Party.

While the PC was located in Pripyat, a kind of "brain center" was formed at the IAE, where they actively worked with the incoming data, analyzed them and, based on this, suggested further actions on the LPA and pondered the reasons for what happened. This was supervised by the director of the institute and, concurrently, the president of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Academician Anatoly Alexandrov.

Yeah, here it is, the leg. By the way, it is realized as an Easter egg in Stalker, and in several places at once, in particular, in the laboratory at Agroprom.

Photos 2 and 3 show foot frames from different angles, in both cases it is marked with the number 1. At the same time, in photo 2, its metallic sheen is visible. These frames will appear later, then we will decipher the rest of the numbers.

Again a leg, but after 10 years. Traces of a gradual change in her condition are visible.

In reality, they were able to take samples only in 1988, for this they had to go to non-standard solutions, but more on that later.
