The misconception about e-mobiles and e-motors

Believe it or not, the overwhelming majority of caring citizens sincerely believe in advertising statements.

Well, for example, the speech of our Ilonchik that now new electric cars will be inserted into new, simply revolutionary electric motors!

And how really?

As a person and an electrician, I hasten to inform you that the principles of construction of both a synchronous and an asynchronous electric motor are about 130 years old.

And such engines were mass-produced after the Second World War around the world.

And the first Tesla had induction motors.

At the same time, for Leaf, Prius, etc., they are exactly synchronous, because they are at least potentially more complex, but at the same time more dynamic.

An interesting fact: the efficiency of electric motors massively exceeded 90% at least half a century ago.

And I will say again: the most hi-fi-hi-tech caramel in e-mobiles is an  inverter based on a real-time operating system.

Not an electric motor.

And not an electric battery.

And inside the inverter there are pockets full of all sorts of goodies:

  • mathematical models of electric motor and network;

  • mathematical prediction of currents and voltages at once in all phases together and separately;

  • conversions between different mathematical calculus and coordinate systems;

  • a bunch of safety modes;

  • a bunch of communication and response times of hundreds of microseconds  ("micro", mind you - and not "milli" at all!) ;

  • and many, many different things, both in software and hardware.

The electric motor is also not easy.

But inside it - several grades of steel, copper wires, magnets and insulation.

And that's all.
