How Thief: the Dark Project nearly lost its stealth mechanic

Starting with Ultima Underworld and System Shock, Looking Glass Studios has always strived to create deeply immersive games. Since childhood, its founder Paul Neurath loved to inspect all sorts of buildings, including those where he should not be - but the craving for research was stronger.
