WayRay and British Higher School of Art and Design Announce Recruitment for AR Interface Design Course

WayRay is a Russian-Swiss deep-tech startup specializing in the development of holographic augmented reality systems. The WayRay team has created a new augmented reality technology - True AR Head-up Display. WayRay projects a virtual image in front of the vehicle using a holographic optical element (HOE) located in the windshield. The driver looks at the road without being distracted, and the virtual interface elements are integrated into the real world.

Now, together with the British Higher School of Art and Design, the company is announcing a recruitment for a course in interface design for holographic AR HUDs in transport. It is aimed at designers with experience in UI / UX, 3D and Motion Design who want to work with the WayRay team. Details are under the cut.

What kind of competition?

The organizers of the competition decided to hold it in order to show practicing designers the benefits of augmented reality interfaces. The project allows participants to develop skills in developing AR interfaces.

The course is taught by leading designers from WayRay and the British Higher School of Art and Design. The duration of the course is 2.5 months. During this time, participants will go through the main stages of work in the company, learn how to design AR interfaces and create 3D motion graphics with a demonstration of the AR HUD (Augmented Reality Head-up Display) interface in various situations.

At the end of the course, the best participants will be able to do an internship with WayRay as an AR UI / UX designer, engineer or researcher.

When does it start?

  • Start of the program: June 2021
  • Duration: 2.5 months
  • Training format: online and offline on the campus of the British Higher School of Art and Design at the University of Creative Industries Universal University (Artplay Design Center).
  • Application deadline: May 25, 2021
  • Key requirement: a portfolio of works that demonstrate skills in UI / UX design, knowledge of the principles of animation, the ability to work in 3D editors.

AR-system from WayRay

WayRay is the first company to have invented and mastered true augmented reality technologies for the automotive industry. Holography is a great way to convey a real sense of augmented reality. To implement augmented reality in HUDs, WayRay uses holographic optical elements (HOEs).

HOEs are capable of performing sophisticated optical functions even on curved surfaces such as windshields. The virtual image is not projected onto the glass, is not inside the car, useful information for drivers and passengers is integrated into the real world. You don't need a VR headset or glasses to see this. This creates an immersive augmented reality atmosphere.

Add-on AR Display

Along with the built-in solution, WayRay has developed an additional display that can be used for construction and agricultural equipment, as well as for rail, water and air transport.

AR Smart Glass

Technology can also be applied to glass of any size in office buildings, smart homes and public places: airports, train stations and shopping malls. The technology opens up new opportunities for consumers when interacting with digital content, and for advertisers when showcasing their products using AR.
