How to calculate your carbon footprint

In the article you will find not only information about what this footprint is composed of, but also a link to the Carbon Footprint Calculator that will calculate it. The service was created by colleagues from EPAM, I heard about it at the CSR meetup and, of course, decided to talk about it on Earth Day.

This year, the project became a  nominee  and has already become one of the champions of the international competition WSIS Prizes 2021, held by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), an organization working under the auspices of the United Nations.

In the article I will talk about the prerequisites for creating a project, the environmental situation and the calculation formulas. If you don't want to dive into theory, click on the link to calculate your carbon footprint.

Prerequisites. Ecological situation

73% of participants in the global  online Nielsen survey  support the idea of sustainable development and understand the importance of preserving the environment: they said they are ready to change their consumption habits if this will reduce the negative impact on the environment.

The data accumulated over several decades show that our climate is changing rapidly. And one of the reasons for these changes is an increase in the level of greenhouse gas emissions, where a significant part is carbon dioxide, or the well-known carbon dioxide CO2. Under their influence, the lower layers of the atmosphere and the surface of the planet are heated and, as a consequence, the temperature of the world ocean rises and glaciers melt.
