China is one of the world leaders in the IT market, which in many respects squeezes the United States and Europe. At the same time, there are thousands of stories about relocation to the States or Europe, and for some reason engineers almost never go to China.
To understand why this is happening, we talked to Ruslan, an iOS developer who lived and worked in Shanghai for two years. He will tell you how a foreigner works and lives here in general, and why China is almost completely closed to foreign engineers.
How did I start working in China and why there is almost no other way to get here
I worked as an iOS developer at Booking.com in an office in Amsterdam. The management decided to open a full-fledged branch in China - in order to adapt Booking to Chinese specifics. We began to look for employees who are ready to move to this new Chinese branch. I immediately agreed - I was interested in oriental culture and wanted to try to live somewhere in a new and unusual place.
As a result, he moved and worked in this branch for two years. In the end, I was the only foreigner there - the rest of the state were Chinese.
