A guide for beginners. What to do if Windows 10 does not see the 2nd monitor?

A guide for beginners. Windows 10 can't find the second connected monitor? In this article I will tell you what problems may arise when connecting a second monitor and methods for solving them: reinstalling drivers, forced detection, connecting a wireless display.

Sometimes, Windows 10 cannot detect the second monitor due to hardware or driver problems. And if a similar situation occurs, then there are a number of steps to quickly fix the problem with connecting a second monitor.

Checking the hardware

If Windows 10 cannot find the second monitor, then first follow these steps:

  • Reboot your computer.
  • Make sure the correct input is selected.
  • Check the cable connection between the monitor and the video card.
  • Disconnect the cable at both ends, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect it.
  • Use a different cable as the problem may be with the connector pins or a damaged cable.
  • If your monitor and video card have multiple ports, try switching ports.
  • Connect the monitor to another computer to determine if the problem is not with the monitor.
  • Connect another working monitor that is known to be in good working order to test the performance of the video card.

Configure 2nd monitor in system parameters

If you are sure that there are no hardware problems, the physical connection is correct, all elements of the connection circuit are in good order and their functionality is fully checked. Now let's check the settings in the Settings app.

Force detection of a second display

To do this, go to "Start" - "Settings" - "System". In the left side panel of the system window page that opens, go to the "Display" section.

Damaged, faulty or outdated video card drivers are normal for the computer, so they have to be reinstalled or updated periodically.

You can update them manually or through the Device Manager, you can also perform a forced update.

1 way. To update them manually, go to the video card manufacturer's website, enter the exact model of your video card in the search bar (you can see it using the CPU-Z program, for example). Go to the product support page and download the latest driver for your OS. Next, install the driver and restart the PC.

Method 2. Open "Start" - "Windows Administration Tools" - "Computer Management".
