Experience of using car batteries with UPS

Thoughts to use car batteries with UPS have been roaming the Internet for a very long time. The advantages are obvious - the cost of ampere * hours of car batteries is an order of magnitude lower than that of native batteries for UPS. Many have even successfully connected. I just summarized the experience from different sources.

Therefore, just after making sure that the desulfation cycles did not affect the jar, I sucked as much electrolyte as I could from there and refilled the concentrate, bringing the density to 1.10. After three more cycles, the density in this jar increased to as much as 1.20. With the final suction and topping up, I brought the density to 1.25. Now, a year later, the density in this jar is 1.27, which I think is completely normal.





Result

A year after the above-described collective farm, UPS on dead car batteries holds a load of 120 W (peak up to 180 W) for five to six hours. Yes, this is less than half of the capacity of the new ones, but for the batteries, which had an alternative road only to the collection point for non-ferrous metals, this is, IMHO, a very good result.
