Recipes: How to Overcome Senior Developer Interview Stupor?

Hello everyone! The other day I completed the job search process for the position of Senior Developer. Going through many diverse interviews, I several times encountered a very dangerous, in my opinion, enemy of the senior programmer at interviews: stupor.

You can perfectly prepare, know everything and be able to. And you are definitely an excellent specialist. But how to overcome the pressure of the situation and deal with the stupor that suddenly arises during the interview process, when a ringing silence hangs after a question, and action is expected from you?

In this article, I tried to summarize my very recent experience of being interviewed for the position of Senior Developer hot on the heels, and share with you the recipes with which I deal with stress at each stage.

Stage 1. First communication with HR

This stage usually goes smoothly. General questions about your experience, expectations, interest in the job. The safest stage in terms of the likelihood of stupor. And even if you freeze for a couple of seconds, it's not scary.

Situation : stress can arise when it comes to a vacancy with a requirement for a foreign language. If your CV indicates proficiency in English, you may be asked something on it and asked to answer on it. Without practice, it can definitely cause stupor.

Recipe : if you are considering vacancies with a foreign language, before calling (and before the β€œsoft skills” stage described below), say the answers to general questions such as β€œwhat do you expect from your future job, what qualities of colleagues matter to you”. If you know the language, but have little practice, a warm-up saves you from stupor.

Otherwise, everything is usually calm here. The main fun begins after you've been prompted to move on.

Stage 2. Offline test
