Chinese lead-acid batteries for flashlights. Overview and operation

Quite a few Chinese lanterns are equipped with lead acid AGM batteries. Even if the inscription on the package proudly states that there is a lithium-ion battery. And only just opening the box, and discovering a regular network cable instead of a low-power PSU, doubts begin to creep into my head. In this post, I have collected my experience in repairing these lamps and other equipment on such batteries.

21 AGM ?

Shtosh, good question. While Teslas are already ditching 18650 batteries in favor of newer ones, we still have a bunch of cheap lead-based electronics. AGM of comparable capacity is still one and a half times cheaper than lithium. Unlike lithium, the charger for AGM is much more primitive and is assembled using ordinary loose materials, in the simplest case, on some capacitors, resistors and diodes. AGM size is 2 times larger than 18650, but for many devices this is not critical. That's how we live.
