In the Batavia storyline from The History of Europe , Norman Davis recounts the horrific form of correctional labor used in Holland in the 17th century. The convict was placed in a sealed cell, where there was only a pump and a tap with running water. The unfortunate man had to constantly pump out this water, otherwise he risked drowning. Such execution was used to reeducate parasites and in miniature represented exactly the cultural and geographical context in which the Netherlands developed. Today it is extremely difficult to read that the state of Kiribati is either sinking or simply imitating in order to buy land from Fiji under a plausible pretext . Nevertheless, with a noticeable rise in sea level - in the 21st century, the sea level may rise by 1 meter - we continue to show the Batavian character and are actively developing technologies for the construction of artificial islands.
