6 Irish startups to look out for in 2021

Every year, the Start-up Showcase Enterprise Ireland presents Irish startups with high growth potential, which are worth watching for representatives of the venture capital industry. At the end of February, the government agency Enterprise Ireland , which is responsible for supporting Irish businesses around the world, unveiled 125 Irish startups that received funding in 2020.

In 2020, Enterprise Ireland supported 80 high-potential Irish startups. An article by Elaine Burke, editor of Silicon Republic, lists six to look out for in 2021.

These include both startups at an early stage of development and companies that have been named as having high potential - HPSU (high-potential start-ups). This status requires a thorough assessment of the startup's team and business model. Specifically, Enterprise Ireland is looking for companies with the potential to create 10 jobs or achieve sales of € 1 million over three years.

While each of the 80 startups featured in the presentation deserves this designation, Niall McEvoy, manager of HPSU at Enterprise Ireland, highlighted a few promising projects that he likes - although the choice was not easy.

Altada

The first on the list is Altada, which works in the field of artificial intelligence. Founded in 2017, the company uses AI to optimize and interpret huge datasets. The company has strong values, and claims that trustworthy and ethical artificial intelligence informs every step of the way. Last year, the company applied its technology to help frontline employees improve data processing efficiency in the face of the Covid-19 crisis.
