One of the distinctive features of Verkhnyaya Pyshma is that, unlike many industrial cities, its population has been growing since 1959, with rare exceptions. If in 1959 30 thousand people lived in the city, then in 2020 there are 72 thousand people in Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
Perhaps one of the reasons for this is that Verkhnaya Pyshma is being consciously developed. One of the tools for creating a strategy was the analysis of school essays: that is, those people who will build the future of this city were simply asked what they need.
This post is about the history of the city's formation and its development strategy, which envisages a population growth of up to 120,000 people by 2035.
Industry and history
In the 18th century, people who left Yekaterinburg made their first stop at the place where the village of Pyshma appeared. And in 1814, the first gold deposits were discovered here in the upper reaches of the Pyshma River. By 1823, two placers of gold were discovered.
Later, in 1854, the settlement was renamed Copper Mine. The name is due to the fact that the development of copper ore began at the head of the Pyshma River. A couple of years later, a copper smelter appeared - it became a city-forming enterprise. 306 people worked on the extraction, 135 of them were serfs. The first street of the village was formed by barracks built for miners and lumberjacks.
