The most delusional, incompatible with reality ideas about the study of foreign languages ββare among people who speak them well. For translators, for example. Paradox, right? Not.
Almost everywhere languages ββare given very poorly, and only people with good abilities really learn them. No teaching skills or special techniques are required to train such people. They will accept any teaching method. They will think of something themselves. But such a maximum is 5-10%. The rest, including smart people with a good education, become victims of myths spread by marketers of language schools.
Throughout my teaching career, I have fought these myths with articles. Spent hundreds of man-hours trying to formulate it as BOTH as short as possible. I would kill for half a day (!), Figuring out how to shorten a paragraph by at least one line without losing its meaning. I was glad when I managed to delete even one superfluous word. The film (collection of lectures) is the result of this many years of work.
