[Personal experience] "Matured Russia": the intricacies of moving to Canada

In July 2020, in the midst of an already hateful pandemic, ValCanada received the status of a resident of Canada and moved with his family to North America.

Frankly and sincerely, he shared with us the peculiarities of the country, about which little is said in the instructions on relocation: how to get the maximum points for permanent residence, which IT specialists find it easier to find a job, how to legally save on rented housing (but, possibly, earn neurosis), why when moving, it is worth dressing warmer, and how things are with the newfangled diversity.

Hi, my name is Valery. I have been working in IT for almost 20 years, and 15 years in information security. I wanted to emigrate for a long time, I thought about it 10 years ago, and initially only Europe was in the plans. But after several years of researching possible options, I realized that there are only two countries where experienced professionals are expected, and where their skills are in demand: Germany and Canada.

The paperwork and filing of the application, from and to, cost me about 6,000 CAD (300,000 rubles at the rate of 2019) for a family of  3 people, for one it will turn out to be about 3,000 CAD.

Immigration to Quebec is a separate issue. This is a province with its own laws and requirements, which does not participate in Express Entry! Instead, they have Certificat de sélection du Québe, where the first item, of course, is knowledge of French.

What will complicate immigration to Canada or make it impossible

There are several things that make it difficult to obtain residency.

1. Medical indications. Tuberculosis, including inactive tuberculosis, HIV, syphilis - they will immediately give up on such an application.
