And a mistake can cost the company a lot. How does the average user choose an enclosure? Most often, he acts on a whim without evaluating key parameters, focusing on server lines and trusting a certain brand with which he is used to dealing. But in order to make an informed choice of an enclosure, you need to know the conditions for its operation. This article will help you determine the criteria and minimize the risks of making the wrong choice.





For starters, we are reviewing the nineteen-inch (19 โ€) equipment placement standard developed by the Electronic Industries Association and called ANSI / EIA-310D. This standard will determine the specification of a "standard" rack - the height and width of the mounting equipment (the Russian analogue of ANSI / EIA-310D is "GOST 28601.1-90 System of load-bearing structures of the 482.6 mm series. Panels and racks. Basic dimensions" ). Among the key parameters of this standard:





  • 19 "(19") or 482.6mm is the maximum width of the equipment to be installed, including mounting brackets;





  • 44.45 mm (one unit or RU (Rack Unit)) - the height of the area for placing mounting equipment (a certain number of RU);





  • 450 mm - distance between 19-inch profiles;

Ideally, with a cabinet depth of 1200 mm, the distance between the front and rear pair of 19 = inch profiles should be at least 750 mm with the mounting plates installed. Choose cabinets with a front door as convex as possible: this will allow you to push the front profiles forward as far as possible without interfering with the connection of patch cords and USB devices.
