Somehow quietly celebrated on Habré the birthday of Stephen Jobs-2021. But better late than never: I want to raise a glass in memory of Jobs, and congratulate us on the fact that we had him - and, in a sense, we still do. Steve is alive in his words, deeds, examples of his life, in wonderful programs and devices that appeared thanks to him and remain at our disposal.
I want to make a long toast and say a lot about the birthday boy and what exactly he did for us.
Jobs was a fairytale hero who turned our lives into a fairy tale - into several fairy tales, which I will highlight separately.
It seems to us now that there has always been a machine program. This impression is created by stories about ancient Antikythera mechanisms, Ada Lovelace and punched cards.
But such a program that allows me to write down a thought now, and you read it - such a program appeared quite recently. This is a custom program or application . Applications appeared in my life in the late 80s with the appearance of the IBM XT with a dot matrix printer in my apartment. Back then, everyone wrote beautifully by hand (how awful to think about it now).
I had a simple Soviet family of scientists. Progressive Western mankind received the app in the late 1970s with the Apple II device, which Steve Jobs created.
It was not in vain that I started with an application that allows me to write, and you can read this health resort. It doesn't matter what the name of the device is - IBM XT or Apple II. The main thing was not the device, but the user program, which opened up new possibilities for man and humanity.
Such possibilities were opened by Johannes Gutenberg's invention of printing in the 15th century. Several centuries later, the world has changed beyond recognition.
Gutenberg did not separately invent a book, paper or loom (the loom is thousands of years old). Gutenberg gave us a common approach to typography, which has become a new way of communicating thought.
