Bitcoin or Bitcoin?

How to write 'Bitcoin' correctly in Russian

In Russian, there are two variants of writing the word Bitcoin - through "oi" ( Bitcoin ) and through "oh" ( Bitcoin ).

Which one is correct? In fact, this is not such a simple question. The debate between the supporters of both options has been going on for more than one year and, at the time of this writing, there is no established norm in the Russian language.

Nevertheless, let us analyze the arguments in favor of each of the options.

Initially, in Russian-language articles, as a rule, the English-language spelling was used - Bitcoin. For example, in one of the first Russian-language articles about Bitcoin (and maybe the very first) -  “Bitcoin (฿): a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency” .

But then the spellings "Bitcoin" and "Bitcoin" began to appear .

The first is a  transliteration of the  word  bitcoin  - the transfer of characters from one script (letters of the alphabet) to characters from another script.

The second - by the  transcription of the  word  bitcoin  - by the transfer in a letter of one or another set of written signs (letters) of the elements of sounding speech (sounds).

Initially, the Bitcoin option became generally accepted. So, in the Russian-language section of the official website of the  Bitcoin Project, until September 12, 2014, the spelling through "oi" was used:

The writing has not yet settled down. This is a new word that has arisen quite recently, so there is no need to talk about the "correctness" or "fallibility" of one or another option yet.

Findings:

Language is a living organism. It is impossible to drive him into a set of immutable rules. He lives his life, constantly transforming, accepting the commonly used and rejecting the little used.

While there is no established use of the Russian-language equivalent of the word  Bitcoin , both options -  Bitcoin and  Bitcoin  - are acceptable for use. There is no mistake in using this or that option. But the Bitcoin option is used much more often.
