Compliment to all developers (four THANKS)

Today is March 1st. If you look at the calendar, you can find not only the first day of spring, but also the World Compliment Day. Therefore, today I am bringing to life a long-standing idea - to write a few words about how someone who is not a programmer works with programmers. Spoiler, there won't be many technical details in the text, as some colleagues will read it and give an expert opinion in a "cart" or on a coffee break. Here are just a couple of working observations and 4 THANKS for them.

Working interaction

I am an employee of the commercial department and in the list of responsibilities there are a couple of points on which it is necessary to interact with programmers. As a rule, all working communication includes discussion of potential projects for Customers. Such queries can be divided into 3 categories:

  1. There are specific development requirements (most likely seen elsewhere), but the budget is small and needs to be optimized, find a solution

  2. A big request (more often a tender), where a very interesting project is obtained, in the list of requirements, perhaps the programmer should not be on his head, but everything else is "please be so kind".

  3. There is an idea that it should look something like this, only we are specialists in another field, so it is difficult to draw up a budget and answer a number of technical questions.

There is an important clarification worth making before going any further. I have a higher education with a technical bias and even a red diploma (URA, even though it came in handy in the text). This gives an understanding of some of the basics in IT.

Let's get back to working interaction. After the first communication with a potential Customer, the commercial department always goes to the programmers and issues something like “The customer wants 7 perpendicular red lines, where 2 are green and 3 are transparent. It would also be great if one is in the form of a kitten, we will present it as a killer feature! " Such tasks are presented with a sense of accomplishment, since there is a Customer and a task, and then “you’re a programmer”.

Here comes the FIRST THANKS to programmers.
