"Your design is shit!": A guide to creating design principles for a product company

We are sharing an algorithm for working on creating design principles that worked for us and may be useful to someone else.

Introduction

Previously, designers in our company worked in a single department according to the β€œstudio” principle. The manager distributed tasks according to skills, workload and grades. But as the company and the team grew and developed, the approaches to design began to change. Therefore, in the fall of 2020, we changed the organizational structure and sent a dedicated designer to each product team for more immersion in the product.

Working according to the old scheme in the first half of 2020, we learned to communicate with each other remotely. But when people were sorted by product teams, designers had less time for general demos and syncs, and design critic sessions began to drag on.
