Greetings, Habr!
In this article I want to talk about flexible management of business processes and the role of information information in this matter. I hope the material will be informative and interesting. I will be glad to hear your opinion about the thoughts that I have voiced.
Problems of the traditional view of business processes
When they talk about business process management, they represent consultants who analyze data, optimize the organizational structure of the company and the order of certain actions. Engineers who develop and implement various control, analysis, digitization and process automation systems also come to mind. And, of course, we represent operating directors who are involved in debugging and managing business processes on the ground.
The goals of business process management are to reduce operating costs, increase the efficiency of enterprises, accelerate the pace of production and development, introduce uniform standards to reduce management risks and the ability to scale the business. All this is very cool, but, in my opinion, there is a problem that rarely anyone takes into account.
Many business process professionals think of them as static. This view is great for the design and analysis of closed systems, but companies are open socio-technical systems consisting of living people interacting with each other.
In theory, we can subordinate employees to regularly follow the regulations, procedures and rules within the company. In enterprises with a large flow of routine production operations, this can work. But humans are not robots and have a much greater degree of freedom of behavior than machines. In addition, we cannot subordinate customers, suppliers, partners, industry, scientific and social institutions, states - they are all closely related to each other, unpredictable and make adjustments to the activities of any company. Surrounding processes are often more powerful over, even if very well-regulated, processes within companies.
