I'm a team lead, why do I need all this?

In the previous article, I talked about the similarities between the tasks and tools of the team lead and the psychologist, and promised to answer the question why the team lead needs this.





Well really, why? The task of the team lead is to do everything to make the team work efficiently. Why be sincere and empathic if people are a resource and you know how to manage them?





But we are all human, not some impersonal resource. This means that for high-quality interaction with each other, we need effective communication. Having mastered it, you will be able to deal with conflicts in the team, and in some cases prevent them, understand the motivation and interests of employees. There is also something more important: you will establish communication with yourself, develop self-awareness and healthy reflection.





I'll start with this. 





Self-awareness

Empathy helps you catch what you feel, what happens to you when you listen to another person. A healthy appeal to your feelings, living in contact with other people helps not to burn out, which is very important when working as a team lead. I already mentioned that the risk of burnout is greater for those who interact a lot with people. And everyone expects something from the team lead, wants something. And when we go a long distance from our experiences, we can burn out very quickly. This happens especially often when you forget about your own psychological hygiene. You forget to ask: โ€œHow do I feel now? What is happening to me? How do I do that? "

When you learn to relate to what you yourself feel, to live it at the level of yourself, it will help you not to enter into any conflicts, because you will be able to catch yourself in time: โ€œNow I am irritated because I am tired, and not because this developer came up to me at the wrong time and told me something wrong. I just need to sit alone in silence now. " And do not fall for it.
