Product Owner vs Product Manager or Product Owner / Product Manager

In my previous article, I talked about the Product Manager role and how it differs from the Project Manager role. It should be noted that the understanding of these positions differs not only in different countries, but in different companies within the same city . Some oppose them, others believe that these positions are interchangeable, and others that the functions of a product manager are included in the functions of a project.

Who is right? There is no single answer. The IT sector is developing rapidly, companies are expanding, new projects are being created that require new approaches. Appear " mnogostanochnik ": devopsy, fulstek developers, technical Project Manager. All this often leads to confusion, when the HR team cannot clearly articulate who they really need, and vacancies appear that include a set of responsibilities "from all, a little bit."

After making a comparison between Project Manager and Product Manager, I got a question:

"What is the difference then between Product Owner and Product Manager?"

Let's figure it out together!

Product Manager is not tied to any particular model, methodology, or framework.

If a company works on Scrum, SAFe, etc., then a product owner will appear - a person who is responsible at least for the constant prioritization of requirements for the product being developed and gives quick feedback to the development team.

My conclusion : the skills of a product manager are quite enough for the role of a product owner and vice versa. It doesn't matter what you were named, it matters what you were hired for.
