The research papers database is now accessible directly through the service portals as well as through NextDNS, a privacy-focused, cloud-based domain name resolver that converts IP addresses to domain names. The NextDNS developers call themselves "true advocates of net neutrality and online privacy." They believe that "unencrypted DNS resolvers managed by ISPs are detrimental to these two principles." A censorship-resistant DNS will help keep Sci-Hub available even if they try to close it again, the portal's founder hopes.
