History of the Lockheed monorail

In the late 1950s, driven by a growing interest in monorails and other forms of "new" modes of transportation, Lockheed Aircraft Corporation decided to apply its aircraft building skills to create its own monorail system.

Lockheed wanted to provide cheaper and faster transportation of passengers to and from airports where Lockheed liners fly.

While the Lockheed monorail may appear very similar in appearance to the more famous ALWEG monorail, the monorail carts were fundamentally different.
