Personal learning experience at Yandex.Practicum

If you are not interested in the topic of education, then feel free to skip this long text. For those who are still looking for feedback on Yandex.Practicum, I recommend spending some time to familiarize yourself with the training structure.

Synopsis

A paragraph for those who want to get a real feedback from a Yandex.Practicum student without "extra water". Course "Interface Designer". Duration - seven months. Before paying, it is possible to go through part of the textbook. You can pay in installments or immediately. The language of presentation of the material is available for any age. Even if you are fifty, you can master the course. And this is a fact, since adults study with me. There are tasks in the textbook that must be completed in order to consolidate the material and understand the following topics. Training takes place in sprints. You have time to read the textbook and complete the assignments. There are two types of tasks. Mini-projects and regular tasks. There is no way to read chaotically in the tutorial. The material is presented in a strict sequence. Some tasks need to be completed to move on to the next paragraph.Tasks with an asterisk are optional, but desirable. At the end of each sprint, you need to complete the final project, which has two deadlines. A soft and hard deadline. If you submit a project before the soft deadline and receive feedback from the reviewer with comments on the project, you have two iterations to correct the comments. So your project becomes better and you understand and assimilate more. If you didn’t have time to deliver the project before the soft deadline, you have a hard deadline. In this case, by submitting the work for review, you have one attempt to fix it. Those who can't meet deadlines go on an academic leave. There were such students among us. The reasons are different - a person's workload, family problems, health and others. When you know that someone could not continue their studies and went to the academy, your motivation increases. In addition to a textbook with tasks and projects that can become the basis for your portfolio, feedback and social activity among people like you are of particular importance in learning. The slack.com platform is used for communication. For each stream of students - its own curator, teachers and mentors. According to the rules, you can ask questions in private messages, in special thematic channels. They respond quickly, without delay, in accordance with the established regulations. All students communicate here. The entire stream is divided into groups. Each group has its own name. Each group has its own mentor and teacher. For general questions, you need to contact the curator. The mentor conducts webinars that provide clarification of unclear topics. The main thing is that everything takes place in the dialogue mode of all participants in the webinar. This is very motivating. You can chat via video or chat. Some webinars are devoted to the analysis of the work performed by students. There are webinars hosted by invited designers. If something is not clear in the textbook or during the execution of projects, feel free to ask the teacher a question. He can explain the topic in his message or enter into a dialogue if incomprehensible material remains. In addition to communication, slack is used to exchange links to interesting and useful resources. In particular, UX, UI, typography and related areas. Self-organization and motivation are very important, from my point of view. The textbook is sufficient to understand the subject and develop skills for future work. And yet, this system is perfect only with the participation of the student himself. Each person is unique and the speed of understanding and abilities are individual. Therefore, it is necessary to refer to external teaching materials. Yandex, Google and other search engines contain many links to useful sources of design wisdom. Youtube with free lessons of UX / UI designer tools, professional literature, designer chats, where you can ask and get a lot of useful information on the profession, are a must.
