Priscus vs. Verus - the most famous gladiator fight in history

In 80 AD, almost 2000 years ago, Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasian Augustus, the great emperor of the Roman Empire, proclaimed the beginning of the games in honor of the opening of the Flavius Amphitheater, which is remembered by descendants as the Colosseum.

Under this emperor, Vesuvius erupted, destroying Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabia. And the great Roman fire that destroyed the entire northwestern part of the city, including the Baths of Agrippa, Pompey's Theater, Balba Theater, Serapeion, Pantheon and many other valuable buildings. Upon learning of this, the emperor Titus exclaimed - "All the losses are mine!" And he helped to restore the city by decorating his own estates and houses, and he financed all the construction only from his own funds, refusing the help of individuals and vassal kings. This generosity was the reason for the creation of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera "Titus's Mercy".
