Sanity theory

How to think and act adequately to the situation, get rid of infantilism and not step on the same "rake"? This article can be a starting point for acquiring skills of assimilation of material of almost any complexity.

The general semantics  includes a method for helping to achieve appropriate evaluative responses that promote mental health. Its foundations were laid by A. Korzybski and defined it as a general theory of evaluating facts, relations of sensations, etc. in terms of how the evaluative reactions actually occur.

Aristotle is unique in that his followers worshiped not only his best qualities, but also his flaws, which he never did with anyone, living or dead; for which he was more than once censured - for non-worship. Augustus de Morgan - "science and sanity" A. Korzybski.

In 1933, a Polish mathematician named Alfred Korzybski published Science and Sanity, and in 1938 he founded the Institute of General Semantics in the United States. His concept is based on the statement that any human knowledge is limited by the structure of the nervous system and the structure of language. This means that a person a priori cannot know everything about everything. Korzybski analyzed the structure of the languages of the Indo-European group using mathematical methods and revealed the fundamental foundations of the logic of the language that people use from day to day, hidden in undefined and multi-order terms (which take on meaning only in the presence of context). Through them, the metaphysics underlying the language we use is shown, its imperfection, some inconsistency with reality (for example, one word can be used for several entities at the same time, which can contribute to misjudgment and ineffective behavior (more on that later)). To overcome this barrier, Korzybski introduced into the OS (general semantics) a non-elementalist (later it will become clear what this means) term semantic reactions  - the  psychological reaction of an individual to words, language and other symbols and events in connection with their meaning, and psychological reactions that become meanings and configurations of relationships at the moment when the individual begins to analyze them, or someone else does it for him ...  I also developed a simple and visual tool for teaching new, more adequate semantic reactions - the structural differential. I propose to start this approach with a presentation of the concept of the timing mechanism  .

This article does not claim to be complete and was written for informational purposes only. Use the relevant literature to study general semantics. When writing, materials from the book "Science and Sanity" by A. Korzybski were used. I also recommend a book on this topic, in which the basic principles of general semantics are analyzed in a simpler language - "get your sanity back" by Susan and Bruce Kodish.
