AR and VR in recruiting: a trend of the future or a useless toy?

Today there is a lot of talk not only about the automation of recruiting and HR processes in the company, but also that it would be nice to diversify these processes using AR / VR.

Is there any real benefit from this for recruiters and candidates? Or is it just expensive entertainment for companies that can afford it?

Let's summarize in one sentence the universal task of AR / VR (like any other tool) in recruiting:

To give the company an understanding whether it needs this candidate, and to give the candidate an understanding whether he needs this company.

Otherwise, there is no point in such an innovation. I would be grateful for points of view, examples of successful and unsuccessful AR / VR implementations when hiring or evaluating candidates.
