Since March 2020, I have been working at Postal Technologies, the IT branch of Russian Post. Pochtatech develops digital products for the Post: external products for customers, internal products for employees and contractors. When I got this job, I had little understanding of what I would be dealing with. It was useless to google the post office, none of my friends worked there, plus no one canceled the unflattering stereotypes about the Post.
This article is what I was missing in March. This is a story about whether a designer should go to work in large state-owned companies aimed at digitalization. The words "Russian Post" in the article are used for convenience: basically, we are talking more about Pochtatech (a branch of the Post) than about the parent company.
The article can be useful for guys who worked in custom development or small products, and then moved to a large company.
