There are 2 types of people at a distance ...

2020 is a terrible year, but interesting. In addition to what is happening around us, remote work has happened in the lives of companies around the world. The experience turned out to be different: someone decided to extend the terms of remote work for years to come, someone has been in the office since August and wants to forget this story like a nightmare. The employees also turned out in different ways: someone became the best version of themselves, someone cannot emerge from the sticky blues and even depression.

They also behaved differently. This is not to say that there is someone good or bad at a distance, all accents are mixed and varied. Someone may lose health, but solve work tasks with triple productivity, someone perfectly communicates and unites the team, but literally hates routine and is in a state of harsh procrastination.

I have identified two "stitch" types of "remote person" and "office person". They are so different, but they work together. And it seems that if you know about these settings, you can become a little more human and manage your staff thoughtfully, not for the sake of a tick. Empathy, understanding and respect are what will help us now much more than Zoom.

According to my observations, two main groups can be distinguished:

Remote operator

Office man at a distance

It all depends on the inclinations of the person and his character - he practically does not change his attitude towards learning.

If he likes to learn, he will β€œvacuum” all available methods and even master a new profession thanks to the ability to plan and high productivity.
She strives to learn everything and everyone, so as not to waste time, to be better and at the same time to kill time before returning to office life.

Of course, these are "laboratory" extremes, but it is these descriptions that are the core of every employee who is prone to distance or, on the contrary, to office life. Transformation between types is also possible, but it takes about three years - for example, I was once able to become a responsible and productive remote worker from an office-office person.

And there is also a very important difference between these two types: for the first, remote work (forced or as a bonus option) is a way of life, the norm, and for the second, it is a temporary state that needs to be waited out, experienced and returned to a comfortable office environment. Indeed, I am sure that in Russia the majority will return. But for the future I want to give a little advice: everyone, office and remote, live in the present, equip your workplace for a week the same way as for one year. Life consists of transitions, it is not worth living in temporary huts. Trust me, the right mindset and good working angle are great at reducing stress and increasing productivity.
