Windows 10 has a handy feature that I use all the time - search in the Start menu. Specifically, I mean the ability to press the "Start" key on the keyboard and immediately start typing, for example, the first letters of the name of the desired program - the search results are immediately displayed on the screen.
At some point, this feature stopped working on my work computer. Not long before that, a colleague of mine had lost the ability to search in the Start menu.
I also found that the search in the taskbar does not work (if the display of the search button is turned on): when entering text into the search bar, either just a black window is displayed, or nothing at all.
But that's not all! In the taskbar for displayed icons, the context menu is no longer displayed by pressing the right mouse button.
Long searches on Russian-language and English-language sites led to approximately the same results: glitches of Microsoft services in March 2020, reindexing, rollback of updates, and so on. But the result was zero. As a result, after suffering, I reinstalled the operating system, especially since I had been planning to do it for a long time.
Recently, the search and context menu failed again. But this time I realized what was the matter ...
If you encounter similar problems and know what the OPC protocol is and / or have recently changed the DCOM parameters, then my experience can probably help you. So, the sequence of actions is as follows:
you must start the Component Services console snap-in. The easiest way to do this is by calling the " dcomcnfg " command through the "Run" dialog (Win + R);
