VSCO Acquires AI-powered Video Editor Trash

Mobile photo processing company VSCO today announced it has acquired the AI-powered video editor Trash. Under the terms of the agreement, it will be integrated into the VSCO application, which will allow users to get creative with video processing. The cost of the deal was not disclosed.

Trash Video Editor, founded by Hannah Donovan and Genevieve Patterson, uses artificial intelligence technology to analyze multiple videos and identify the most interesting frames. Then it automatically creates the final product, but users can change it using the appropriate menu items. In May this year, a Styles feature was added to Trash, which allows users to select the type of video they want to shoot. By integrating technologies used in Trash, VSCO will make video editing more accessible for beginners, while advanced users will have new settings for meticulous video editing.

The first feature coming to VSCO with the acquisition of Trash will be the ability to edit multi-clip videos. Over time, other technologies that were used in Trash will be available. Also, users will be able to save their video processing parameters. However, new technologies will only be available to subscribers.

Trash as a standalone application will cease to exist on December 18, 2020. As a result of this deal, Donovan will join VSCO as Chief Product Officer and Patterson as Senior Software Engineer in Machine Learning.
