Hi, Habr. My name is Olya Nikitushkina, I have been working at Yandex for 12 years. At the beginning of 2020, the direction of my activity changed dramatically and turned out to be associated with the social project "Help is Nearby". It was born in late March in response to the coronavirus epidemic. Then we had neither a long-term plan, nor an understanding of what place we should occupy in the charitable sphere. All this came later.
Today I will talk not so much about what we managed to do this year, but about an important idea that largely determined the project's renewal. Let's also talk about deliberate charity and how Yandex can promote this idea. At the end of the post, I will share the news about a product change that will allow any user of the Yandex Go application to become a systemic benefactor.
How the project was born
In the spring, the pandemic hit everyone. One at a time, others felt the consequences later. But in general, the situation then deteriorated rapidly. We understood this from the surge in requests to Yandex related to transportation:
Health care workers needed to make quick and frequent home visits. There was not enough special transport, and doctors could not use public transport: it was dangerous for other passengers.
