"Marburg virus is a pandemic in a cell"

Filoviruses are a surprisingly popular family. Holders of the status of the maximum biological threat, they are widely advertised in the press, any mention of them causes goosebumps among the inhabitants, indecent and quickly scattering throughout the body. But what's really surprising is that much of their history and the real threat they pose is still off-screen. If you have heard of Ebola, then its twin, the Marburg virus, is no longer so familiar to most of us. And certainly few people know that once we were one step away from distributing it throughout the planet voluntarily. Discovery story, patient zero and the future of phylo-epidemics, welcome to the post "Marburg - a pandemic in a cage".

That, however, does not negate the growth in the number of known filoviruses. In January 2019, in Mengla County, Yunnan Province, China, a new filovirus was discovered, identical in genome structure to the known 32-54%. Presumably, its natural reservoir is one of the species of fruit bats - flying dogs. No cases of disease among people have been recorded at the moment.
