Why donation is the future, if done right

I often come across comments on the Internet, from which it is clear that the majority do not understand why donations are needed. For some, this topic even causes aggression.

I'll tell you why donation is an evolution of the relationship between producers and consumers, why this system is the most profitable of all existing ones, and not so much for the manufacturer, including the author, but for the consumer, including the reader, including the aggressive one.

Foreword

I understand that from the regulars of Habr, most likely, many (maybe most) will not find anything new for themselves in the article. But Habr has already left a highly specialized resource in a large, diverse media, and articles on it have long been googled and read not only by the community.

About terminology. By donation, I mean not only donations to bloggers, streamers and other content makers, but also support for free software.

So, let's say you need some unfamiliar software. For example, to calculate the optimal trajectories of throwing stones through the water (they are also frogs, frogs, pies). And you also want to quickly learn how to use it.

Option 1. Download free software and see free reviews-reviews-instructions on YouTube

Pros:

  • No money was charged from you (not to be confused with "free"!)

  • Donations are a natural evolution of the interaction system, where instead of imposing a price by the manufacturer, the buyer is invited to evaluate the product himself and pay according to his assessment and wealth. This opens up tremendous opportunities for both consumers and producers. But the system requires awareness, cooperation and discipline.

  • Manufacturers will not voluntarily switch to such a system, especially if there are proven monetization channels. This system will only be able to profit from the submission of consumers, when the manufacturer will understand that "the audience is ripe."
