How did a simple interview, scheduled for Friday night, turn all my ideas about a job looking upside down? It would seem that an ordinary meeting is the same as hundreds of others that we, the developers, go to - meetings with the team, meetings with partners, one-on-one or interviews. The familiar, now, Zoom, meeting time, format - be on time. And so it was. But itβs incredible for me to experience such a storm of emotions. Delight and disappointment, despondency and inspiration, pain and pure buzz. If all interviews were like this, our world would be a better place (if they were not equated with euphoretics).
And this is the impression of an hour and a half interview?
Yes. It's simple, I tell you. I was interviewed by a front-end leader at a large international company. To be honest, after 10-15 minutes it became obvious: I was here by accident, the recruiter made a mistake, it looks like he will be punished. Sensations? Itβs uncomfortable, even as if itβs a little embarrassing for the time spent by an important, dear professional. I took 15 minutes, costing like my week, probably how bad it turned out.
It makes no sense to talk about the technical part, I started guessing from the first question. You know these questions, when, in fact, I know how it all works, but the context makes you doubt and you are trying to lower the sail, don't swim, but it's too late. Of course, it didn't work out as it happens, hope left me first. At that moment, I had everything except hope.
Obviously, the interview should end ahead of schedule, everything is clear to everyone, I would go to curse the recruiter, after all, it's so embarrassing, well, why, and the lead is doing his important Leeds business. In the meantime, questions and tasks do not end. I started hinting that okay, that's enough, it was some kind of unfunny joke, let's say goodbye.
This is the last interview for today, take your time
Okay, I relaxed. This he consciously, that is, yes, my interlocutor also understood everything, but wants to continue. What? Is he serious? Probably decided to make fun? Well, how can it be, to assert yourself at the expense of a fool, how low it is, you should be ashamed! It was I thought, and the next moment an hour and a half of a hellishly cool pastime began.
Have you had any interviews before?

I flunked my middle job interview for a lot of money. And I want to team up with my interviewer by June for food.
Show it to your leads and HR
Of course, I was just lucky - he could have things to do. But they weren't. I do not have a representative sample of the market, I have not conducted research and I cannot judge how rare this is, but it hardly happens often, this is the first time for me. And I want it to be like this more often, not only with me, with everyone. There is an obvious plus for the company, but what the candidate gets is simply priceless. Have you had a similar experience?
