Who Said Meow: A Former Amazon Developer Created a Cat Translator

Akvelon's technical manager, Javier Sanchez, has created a feline translator app. In his opinion, " MeowTalk " will help to take the relationship with pets to the next level.

The application is based on machine learning and relies on big data. The principle of the program is similar to the Shazam application , which helps to recognize the artist of a song in real time by part of the melody. In Meow Talk, the decoder button is also activated with one touch.

After a few seconds, the likely meow value is displayed.

You can agree with the proposed option or choose another likely shade of the translation from the pop-up list.

With the help of the program, you can find out whether the pet is willing to eat, whether it is experiencing love, pain, or simply calling its mother. The developer promises that user input will train the application to understand a particular cat.

The description of the application says that each cat has a special language with which he communicates with the outside world, pronouncing in a similar way a hungry meow or "let me go." In the future, we intend to introduce voice acting into the application.

According to Sanchez, the application will be useful for establishing close contact between owners and cats, completely changing the culture of their communication.

Javier Sanchez previously contributed to the development of Alexa's machine learning platform , Amazon's personal voice assistant. He worked for Jeff Bezos for a year and a half. The programmer explains that the work of creating the application is another chance for him to interact and explore voice technologies, albeit not entirely unambiguous and even rumbling.

Akvelon is taking the project seriously. One of the arguments is the increased ties between pets and their owners during the pandemic and lockdown. During this period, many were limited in movement and meeting with people, spending most of their time alone with pets. Therefore, the “give your cats a voice” solution looks quite adequate.

On the Amazon website, in the “Novelty and humor” skills section of Alexa, you can see the Meow Talk skill for talking with cats. Maybe it's time to move from jokes to reality.
