HIV - patient zero of the global pandemic

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is a lifeless and formal phrase that describes a condition that develops against the background of HIV infection. The terminal stage of infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the last stage of the 21st century plague in your body. About 40 million people are living with the disease, slowly awaiting a tragic end. The World Health Organization, scientists and the media endlessly propagate fear of a global threat, predicting a disaster for us.

But how did it all start? From the first drop of blood to the epicenter of a pandemic, from the first interspecies infection to the worldwide war against the virus. Who was the true patient zero? Where did the disease come from? Why are we all going to die and why? What is this long evolutionary path from lustful lemurs to the Colombian drug parade in the southern states, from gay communities and drug addiction to African slaves. What have we done? What have we done that is why we are now dealing with HIV. I invite you to dive into a little investigation of Scientae Vulgaris and go in search of Patient Zero with me.

Part 1. The birth of a myth.

In the early 1980s, the first large-scale studies began in the United States against the background of growing fears and an increase in the number of patients with a new, apparently fatal infection affecting the immune system. This happened before the flames of a global epidemic flared up and the virus penetrated all layers of society and all countries of our planet. At that moment, scientists tried to stop him and studied within the framework of interconnected patients.

As it was, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published weekly reports on morbidity and mortality, and for several weeks in a row, they displayed unusually high data on the number of sarcomas, Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) pneumonia and opportunistic infections. What is usually sick rarely enough. The general condition of the patients was separated into a separate syndrome, a working group was assembled and began to be sorted out.
