Gartner recently released the latest version of their Magic Quadrant for Smart Business Process Management Packages (iBPMS) report. You won't find Camunda BPM in this report or their blog post. I want to explain why.
Despite rumors to the contrary, Gartner will pay attention to your product even if you don't pay them. While we are not their customers, they contacted us last June announcing that a new version of MQ is under development and they are considering including Camunda BPM, as more and more people talk about it in the process of communicating with customers. They have a standardized approach to this, and first of all, they asked us if our product was MQ-ready. This is how I answered:
Why did I answer that way?
First, it is important to understand that “iBPMS” is not a software category, it is a term invented by Gartner a few years ago and is still not used by anyone else (to illustrate this, here is a report comparing the volume of search queries on “iBPMS” versus “ Camunda ” ).
