How employers treat online courses and should they be included in the resume

More than once on Coursera, Quora and on the Russian Internet, the idea was voiced that the leaders do not trust the certificates of online schools. About the reasons for this attitude, the importance of the context and the resume of candidates in the article.

We in the team of the online courses aggregator Kursfinder.ru discovered the following phenomenon: if a person seems to have experience, but he also has certificates from online schools, then a specialist may be looked at with suspicion.

In the business environment, there are reasons for distrust of online courses: they cannot confirm real work experience, the course can be very short, and the quality of the course cannot be checked immediately. And all this is partly true.

Last year Rabota.ru conducted a study on this issue among 300 companies: 27% of employers noted that online education of a candidate still influences the decision to hire, but 35% of respondents still do not react to certificates and diplomas of passing online -courses and trainings.

You can look at the situation like this: if the applicant demonstrates that he is investing his time and intellect in self-improvement, then this is good. If they do it without spending a fortune, then he knows how to invest money. But a lot depends on what the candidate is trying to prove to his employer.

The presence of online courses behind us is only a tiny plus for us: "Oh, man, I took some courses, great." Perhaps we will pay attention to courses from SkillFactory, "Gorbunov Bureau" or similar schools, where training lasts a noticeable time. Intensive courses, where they promise everything in a week, are neither positive nor negative signal for us. Courses and theory are important, but passing them will not help a beginner right away, since the practice of working in a team and solving business problems is an essential work skill that cannot be obtained in the course.
