Astra Linux 3 . Linux

OpenNET with reference to Kommersant writes: β€œ The Astra Linux group of companies plans to allocate 3 billion rubles. for equity investments, joint ventures, and grants for small developers developing niche Linux-based software stack solutions. The investments will help to solve the problem with the lack of functionality in the domestic software stack, which is necessary for solving the problems of a number of corporate and state enterprises. The company intends to build a complete technical stack that would cover the needs of customers in all narrow segments.". The Kommersant website also contains an addendum about the context of such a decision: 1) sales of Astra Linux products more than doubled last year, in the first half of this year the growth was more than doubled; 2) Astra Linux is one of the largest suppliers of security forces (I already wrote about a large-scale purchase of 31,000 licenses in the first issue of FOSS News - vk.com/@permlug-foss-news-0 ).

Android 11 mobile platform release

OpenNET writes: β€œ Google has published a release of the open mobile platform Android 11. The source code associated with the new release is hosted in the project's Git repository (branch android-11.0.0_r1). Firmware updates have been prepared for Pixel series devices as well as smartphones from OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO and Realme. Also, generic assemblies GSI (Generic System Images) have been formed, suitable for different devices based on ARM64 and x86_64 architectures . " According to the publication, the innovations relate to improvements in the interface, security, voice control, communications, privacy and much more.

The engine that could: how Chromium managed to capture 90% of the browser market

On HabrΓ©, a translation of material about the history and reasons for the popularity of Chromium was released: " From the browser engine, which was initially a little-known alternative used in an unpopular browser, to a champion who conquered the entire market ." Summing up the article (which is clearly worth reading in its entirety), the author writes: β€œ From a historical perspective, the development trajectory of Webkit is a real miracle. And it came about through the openness and support of the community. But it's just as important to maintain browser diversity and innovation . ”

Microsoft adds the ability to mount drives to WSL2

OpenNET writes: β€œ Microsoft has announced an enhancement to the WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux) functionality that allows Linux executable files to run on Windows. Starting with Windows Insiders build 20211, WSL2 added support for mounting file systems from physical disks. For mounting, the command "wsl --mount" is offered, with which, among other things, you can mount a partition with a FS that does not have built-in Windows support in the WSL, for example, you can access a partition with an ext4 FS. This feature can be used to organize work with the same Linux partition if there are several operating systems on the computer (Windows and Linux)". I don’t know how anyone, but for me this is a good reason to worry about additional security of the GNU / Linux system if I’m going to use Dual Boot.
